On 29 April, World Design Capital Frankfurt Rhein-Main 2026 kicked off, offering visitors the chance to admire, explore and experience the completed dragon in the garden of the Instituto Cervantes (@institutocervantesfrankfurt), within the Spanish Design Pavilion (@spanishdesignpavilion).
This unique architectural installation transforms the space into a meeting place open to design, architecture and European dialogue. The project, designed by @ggstudio.es and built by Manolo García (@mgcarpinteriacreativa), draws inspiration from Gaudí’s principles. The installation, promoted by @icex, explores new forms of cultural architecture: demountable, itinerant and sustainable, with ceramics as the defining feature of its material identity.
To shape the dragon’s structure, 17 modules were used, comprising 1,400 composite panels of wood and ceramic pieces, totalling 11,000 pieces. Natucer supplied its ceramic scales for the exterior cladding, developing a colour palette created specifically for this project: an architectural skin that lends texture, rhythm and depth to the installation.
